What To Do With Surplus Wedding Flowers

A wide range of silk flowers are used in many floral displays these days.  They are especially useful for the decoration of wedding venues.  The decorating has to be done the day before or even longer and if you were to use real flowers they would have wilted by the time the big day is upon you.

As great amounts of blooms are used on an occasion such as this, there is a problem of what to do with all these when the wedding is over.  They will not decompose quickly and they are too expensive just to throw away.

If you are a creative person you may want to keep them to start making flower arrangements for around the home.  If it is at all possible, and you will have to ask of your provider, you may be able to dye them in different colours so that you do not end up with many white bouquets in your house.

The reason you should ask your retailer first is that some manufacturers use glue when constructing the blooms and this could dissolve if you put your flowers in a dye solution.

You could give some of your creations to the people who were important on the actual wedding day or were instrumental in its organising, such as bride’s maids for instance as a memento of the occasion.  Failing that, you will perhaps be able to sell your creations at a village fete for instance.

Failing that, you will be able to decorate many items with the flower heads alone.  You can paint ordinary boxes and decorate them either with the petals or the flowers themselves.  Of course you will have to throw away the wire stem in this case or you could keep the wire for future use.

I use thin wire to tie some of my garden plants to stakes if they threaten to fall over.  You should ensure however that you do not tie your plants and young trees too tight so that the bark gets cut as they grow.

If you are arranging your blooms in a vase you should ensure that if you use big and bold flowers it is better not to use small sprigs to fill in the gaps.  Small flowers will only get lost in the overall effect.  Sprigs of dainty blooms will look their best in a small vase that is only meant for one flower.

Once you have created the desired effect, your bouquet will last you many years, but the petals and leaves need to be kept free of dust.  You can do this by buying a feather duster that you simply tickle over the arrangement once a week.

A cleanser for this purpose is also available that is simply sprayed on the surface and then left to dry off.  As already said above, if you feel they need a wash, then please ask of your florist first to avoid mistakes.
Of course these flowers do not have a scent, but perhaps you can spray a little diluted scented oil on the foliage to create the perfume you like.
